1. Knitting. With two knitting needles and a thread or yarn, you can make clothing or accessories with your own chosen colors, texture and designs. This can be done by hand or using a knitting machine.

2. Cross stitching. A craft I used to do myself. Cross-stitching uses a counted-thread embroidery, needle and thread in creating designs or patterns. All you have to do is form x’s on your fabric while following a design or pattern.

3. Crocheting. Instead of a needle, a hook is used to make loops connected to each other. There are different styles of loops used in a crochet to form different designs and shapes. Crocheting can be used to make table cloths, mittens, mufflers, bonnets, sweaters and clothes.

4. Scrapbooking. This craft is so popular today. It’s like making your personal diary using photos, souvenirs, letters, and decorative materials that are put together to make one ensemble in the form of a book or an album.

5. Candle Making. Making candles out of candle wax can also be an enjoyable craft. Today candles come in all shapes, sizes, colors and designs. Scents and aromatic oils can also be used to make them extra special.

6. Jewelry Making. Jewelry making and beading is enjoying huge popularity today. All you need are pliers to cut and bend your wires. Swarovski crystals, beads, ceramic, silver, and metal are commonly used in place of the more expensive gold.

7. Quilting. Quilting is stitching together pieces of cloth either by hand or a sewing machine to create a bigger piece of fabric. Traditionally, quilts are made out of three layers of fabric, which usually differ in colors and designs giving the finished cloth a decorative and unique patched design. Quilts can be used as blanket, bed or seat covers.

8. Woodworking. Any method done to give a piece of wood design and function can be considered as woodworking craft such as carving or sculpting. Woodworking can be done to create boxes or storage, furniture, figurines and other art pieces.

9. Sewing. The art of sewing involves needle, thread and fabric to make bed sheets, table tops, rugs, upholstery, pillow cases, curtains and clothing. Sewing can either be done by hand or with a sewing machine.

10. Basket weaving.   This involves the use of natural materials from plant or vegetable fibers that are woven together to create baskets or bins. People who live in the countryside or rural places, where plant fibers are abundant are often into this craft. Woven baskets are classic pieces that are not only decorative but functional as well.

beautiful skin

10 Easy Steps to Healthy Skin

All of us want to have healthy, glowing skin. Beautiful skin makes a person look younger and attractive. More importantly, healthy skin protects us from unwanted elements and keeps our internal organs healthy as well. How can you maintain a beautiful, healthy skin? Here are 10 easy steps:

beautiful skin1. Watch what you eat. Healthy skin should start from the inside. Fiber-rich food should be a large part of everyone’s diet. Fiber promotes the elimination of toxins from the body, does making skin healthy and glowing. Fresh fruits and vegetables must always be included in every meal. Wheat bread is a good substitute for white bread and a bowl of cereals or oat meal for breakfast is always welcome.

2. Exercise. Some people overlook the importance of physical activity especially those with busy but inactive lifestyles. Exercise greatly improves blood circulation and keeps muscles, bones, internal organs and skin healthy. If you spend most of your time sitting in front of your computer, better take a break for a few minutes of exercise and relaxation. Stretching, brisk walking or running on the treadmill at least 15 to 30 minutes a day will make a big difference in your life.

3. Replenish liquids in the body. Drinking water at least eight to ten glasses a day will not only prevent skin dryness, it also helps the liver and kidneys function better. Be sure to drink plenty of water especially when doing exercise or strenuous activities to avoid dehydration. Watch your water intake too during the colder season when you don’t feel thirst at all. Replenish your body with water and drink fresh fruit juices as well.

4. Exfoliate your skin. Our skin needs exfoliation at least twice a week to get rid of dead skin and eliminate clogs on our pores. Body scrubs with grains are a great help in exfoliating the skin. Just make sure that you don’t use body scrub in your face where skin is thinner and a lot more sensitive. You don’t always have to buy expensive body scrubs in the market. You can also use homemade exfoliating scrubs made from natural food ingredients like sugar and oatmeal mixed with oil.

5. Cleanse, Tone and Moisturize. When it comes to facial care, the three step-step regimen is a must. Cleansing, Toning and Moisturizing is a daily ritual you should never forget for your face. Use a mild facial cleanser to get rid of dirt. Afterwards, gently apply toner on your face and neck. Finish it up with a moisturizer to replenish lost moisture before you sleep.

6. Have enough sleep. Stress can really add years to your real age. Sleeping at least eight to ten hours a day is the best way to revitalize the skin. Sufficient rest and sleep will also improve your mood and vitality.

7. Stay out of too much sun. Exposing your skin under the sun’s harmful rays can greatly damage the skin. If you must go out, don’t forget to apply sunscreen. Make sure that your lotion or moisturizer has at least 30 to 45 sun protection factor (SPF) to block out the UVB rays from the sun. However, just because you’ve applied a sunscreen doesn’t mean you can stay under the sun for long hours. Remember sunblocks do not have the ability to block UVA rays, which are also harmful to our skin. Re-apply sunscreen every 30 minutes. For added protection, wear shades, hat or bring an umbrella.

8. Never sleep with your make up on. However tired you may feel at the end of the day, never go to bed without removing your make up. The skin rejuvenates at night and if you have your make up on, it will not be able to breathe properly. As a result, your skin may break out and your pores will get clogged.

9. Take your vitamins. Health supplements help the body stay strong and rejuvenate the skin. Antioxidants Vitamins A, E, C, B6 and B12, glutathione are on top the list. Essential fatty acids like Omega-3 and Omega-6 are also great for our body and skin. Ask your doctor about the right kinds of supplements you should take.

10. Don’t forget your feet. Sometimes, the feet can be taken for granted. Keep your feet smooth by using a foot scrub at least twice a week. Soak your feet in warm water with a foot soak solution to soften the soles and get rid of corns and calluses. After scrubbing and rinsing, don’t forget to apply moisturizer or lotion to keep it soft until the morning. Apply petroleum jelly on your feet each night for a softer, smoother skin.

bad day

How to Survive a Bad Day at Work

Okay, so you feel bored about your job and you’re starting to hate it. Well, you’re not alone. Everyone feels awful sometimes, especially when there are too many tasks to do and things aren’t going your way. How can you survive one bad day at work without losing you temper?

bad day1. Lighten up. Yes, things are not going as smoothly as you want them to be, but sulking will not help you at all. Even if you’re not feeling so good, try to smile (even if it’s hard) and greet the people at your work. You maybe surprised at how it can improve your mood. When you hear someone joking around, laugh it out, or you may want to put in your own sense of humor to work too.

2. Take a walk on your break. It would be better to go outside and get some air than stay on your desk and mope. Do some stretches and let go of your tension. Taking a walk will relax your mind and will give you a renewed energy as you walk back your office.

3. Identify the root of the problem. Why are you really feeling bad? Is it really because of work or is it a personal matter? If it’s really about work, focus on the real cause of the problem and think of a solution. Try to address one problem at a time.

4. Organize your tasks. One possible reason why you may be feeling pressured is because you have too much workload. Is it possible for you to designate some of your tasks to others? Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you really need it. More importantly, take a look at how you’ve been handling your duties. What adjustments can you do to be more organized? Create a daily task schedule so you can use your time more efficiently.

5. Find something to enjoy about your job. While it maybe true that you do not completely love your current job, it is still possible for you to find one particular thing that you enjoy about it. Analyze your tasks closely and find something you like even if it’s just a single thing. Focus on the positive aspects of your job. Contemplating on the negatives will only make you feel worse.

6. Strive for your own self-growth. Yes, some jobs are not as challenging as others. You maybe confronted with tedious, repetitive tasks each day but that’s not a reason for you to stop improving. Find ways on how you can improve your knowledge and skills without compromising your obligations.

7. Avoid gossip. Being with co-workers who do nothing but talk behind other people’s back will not give you any encouragement. If your co-workers do nothing but gossip, it would be much better for you to focus on your tasks and get things done.

8. Appreciate your accomplishments. If you have completed your tasks at the end of the day, then that it’s enough reason to be happy. It doesn’t always have to be a big achievement all the time. Even simple accomplishments can be a reason to celebrate.

9. Be a responsible employee. Having a sense of responsibility will help you to do your job as best as you could. If you’re always thinking about resigning and always complaining about how much you hate your job, then it would really be difficult for you to be happy. Remember, you can choose to be happy.

10. Enjoy the company of your co-workers. Not everyone at the workplace is a gossiper or a bad influence. Surely, you can find people who are sincere and trustworthy. These are the people who can brighten your day at work when you’re feeling bad.

good posture

10 Tips to Improve Your Body Posture

Correct body posture is important in maintaining good health. Good posture helps our internal organs and nervous system function better. It also prevents muscle and bone diseases. Furthermore, good posture makes a big difference in enhancing physical appearance.

How to improve body posture? Here are ten tips:

good posture1) Straighten up. Whether standing or sitting, keep your back straight and feel your spine lengthen. Tuck your stomach in, bring your chest out and keep your shoulders back. Keep your head straight so your chin is at the same level with your shoulders. Try to relax and breathe in and out slowly.

When sitting, keep feet flat on the floor. When standing up, keep feet parallel so that your body weight is evenly distributed. This should be constantly practiced until you can maintain the same body position unconsciously. You should not feel any pain or pressure on your back.

2)Do muscles strengthening exercises. Lift light-weight dumbells as you stretch your arms sideways. This is a good exercise to improve posture. Make sure that you are keeping the correct body position and that there is no strain in your back.

3)Do stretches several times a day. This is especially important if your work requires sitting for long hours. Take short breaks by standing up, tilting your head to four directions and rolling your shoulders and your arms in circles. Reach up and stretch your arms, legs and body. Breathe in and breathe out slowly as you feel your whole body relax.

4)Remind yourself to straighten up. If you’re used to slouching, you may need something to keep your posture in check. Try associating one particular object to your posture. For instance, each time you see your watch, you should be reminded to straighten up or you can use post-it notes in front of your working table or computer as a reminder.

5)Bend your knees when you stoop. If you need to pick up an object from the floor or if you need to lift heavy objects, do not put strain on your back by forcing to reach the object. Instead, bend your needs slightly before reaching down.

6)Use a chair with the right height and back support. If your work requires you to sit for long hours, make sure that your chair is high enough so that your is feet flat on the floor. Choose a chair with a high back for support. You can also place a pillow behind your lower back to keep from slouching.

7)Use a table with the right height. A table that is too low or too high will cause you to lean too low or strain your back and will not help improve your posture.

8)Use a firm bed. A bed that is too soft does not help in keeping the back straight and relaxed. Do not use a pillow that is too high. Instead, use a pillow that provides just the right cushion to your head.

9)Get support from your friends and family. Your friends and your family members can keep you reminded about your posture. Ask them to remind you each time they see you slouching.

10)See a doctor. If you experience back pains when trying to straighten your back, see a doctor or an orthopedist to correct the problem right away.

hair tips

Top 10 Tips for Heathy, Shiny Hair

Having shiny, healthy, and beautiful hair is no secret.  Here are the top ten tips you shouldn’t miss:

hair tips

Use a shampoo that is right for your hair.  Hair shampoos are made to match different hair types.  Whether you have oily, dry or normal type of hair, using a specific shampoo will ensure that your hair gets proper treatment.  Avoid using products that contain harmful chemicals.  Instead, look for brands that make use of natural and gentle ingredients.

Go easy on the shampoo.  Shampooing your hair everyday can make it dull and dry.  Shampoo your hair on alternate days or at least three times a weak, especially if you stayed indoors or your hair has not been exposed to dirt and pollution.

Use a conditioner.  A conditioner after every shampoo is a must especially for people with dry hair.  Rinse your hair well after every shampoo and conditioner to avoid dandruff. If you have oily hair, you can skip on daily conditioning, and use conditioner at least once a week instead.

Never brush wet hair.  Hair is especially delicate when wet.  Brushing wet hair can cause to break easily.  Use a fine-toothed comb.  If you have curly hair, gently comb the tangled ends before combing your way up to the scalp.

Skip the blow dry.  Blow drying your hair excessively can make it brittle.  If you must use a blow dryer, make sure that it’s set on medium heat and never place it directly on your hair.  Keep dryer at least six to eight inches away from your hair.  As much as possible, let your hair air dry for most days.

Have hot oil treatment at least twice a month.  Hot oil treatment is a great way to improve the condition of your scalp, get rid of dandruff, make your hair stronger and bring back the shine to your hair.  If you can’t go to a salon for hot oil, do it from home using coconut oil.  Heat it in a pan until warm enough, and massage it into your hair.  Wrap hair in hot towel and leave it for at least 15 to thirty minutes.  Shampoo afterwards.

Brush before you sleep.  Brushing your hair gives your scalp a massage treatment and helps get rid of tangles.  However, do not over do it.  Just a few brush strokes will do.

Have your hair trimmed at least once a month.  The ends of the hair can weaken and become tangled as it grows longer.  To prevent tangles and split ends, trim at least a centimeter from your hair each month.

Eat healthy. Eating healthy foods is good for your hair too.

Take your vitamins.  Vitamins E, B, C and essential oils are excellent for making hair strong, healthier and shinier.

10 Tips for Healthier Teeth and a Brighter Smile

“Everytime you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”  ~Mother Teresa

Check out these 10 good dental habits to have healthier teeth and a more beautiful smile.

beautiful teeth

1.  Brush teeth three times a day.  The build-up of plaque and cavity can be prevented by brushing teeth after every meal.  If you can’t, make sure that you brush your teeth at least twice a day.

2.    Brush teeth correctly.  How you brush your teeth is just as important as regular brushing.  Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle then brush gently in between teeth and gums.  Make sure that you brush each and every tooth particularly the inside crevices of our teeth.  Don’t be on the rush when tooth-brushing.  Spend at least 3 minutes on brushing to make sure that every tooth has been paid attention.

3. Check your toothbrush.  For a more effective brushing, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and replace your toothbrush after every 3 months.

4. Floss.  Regular flossing helps eliminate food particles between teeth and under the gum line that brushing can’t reach.  Insert dental floss in between your teeth and move it back and forth.  Do this same process in between each tooth.

5. Clean your tongue.  Use a tongue-scraper in cleaning your tongue to get rid of plaque. A regular toothbrush is not an effective tool in cleaning the tongue as it only spreads out the plaque in your mouth.

6. Use toothpaste and a mouthwash with fluoride.  Fluoride prevents cavities so make sure that your toothpaste and mouthwash contains lots of fluoride.

7. Go easy on the tooth-whitening.  Be careful on using over-the-counter whitening toothpastes that claim to whiten teeth in just weeks or days.  Some products may contain bleaching agents that can actually do more damage on your gums and teeth.  To be sure, ask your dentists about it.

8. Skip the candies, coffee and soda.  It’s true.  If you love eating sweets, you also put your teeth at risk of decay.  Go easy on chocolates and candies.  Drinking coffee and soft drinks can also stain teeth.  Use a straw instead of drinking it straight from the cup.

9. Visit your dentist every six months.  Have dental check-ups and cleaning at least every six months to prevent serious gum and teeth diseases.

10. Eat healthily.  Eating right such as fruits, vegetables and calcium-rich foods can help preserve your teeth.  Remember to chew your food well as chewing also helps prevent the build up of plaque.

Kitchen Remodeling Tips On A Budget

Want to remodel your kitchen but with limited cash? Here are top ten kitchen remodeling tips that will fit your budget.

kitchen inspiration

1. Be inspired. Look for inspirations online or in magazines. You don’t have to copy the exact same look and you can use cheaper materials than what was used in the model. But it will help you stay focused on one theme.

2. Repaint walls and old cabinets. Give your kitchen an instant make over by changing the wall colors. If you’re not sure what color works best for your kitchen, try to match it with your inspiration. Don’t be afraid to use colors that you never tried before. You can also ask the marketing supervisor of a home furnishing store for ideas or suggestions.

3. Complement. Find hues that complement your walls to paint your cabinets and shelves. If your cabinet has glass doors, why not try painting the inside of the cabinet with a color that will serve as graceful backdrop?

4. Explore Contrast. Creating a contrast can dramatically change the look of a space. Use the color wheel to discover hues that complement and contrast each other. Experiment by placing two different colors side by side and try out different combinations and see which one appeals to you most.

5. A Place for Everything. Put things in their proper places and arrange them according to their function. Place items that you often use in an area that you can easily reach and stack things that are seldom used in the upper shelves or cabinets. Use different kinds of storage that add appeal to your kitchen like fruit bowls and baskets. Just remember not to overdo it as to make your kitchen look cluttered.

6. Accentuate. Use pieces that have interesting shapes and use them to add warmth to your kitchen. If you have a collection of China or ceramic tea sets, place them on the shelves. Make sure there’s enough space in the area so the shelves do not look rigid or messy. Use plants, pots and greens to add freshness and vibrancy to your kitchen ambiance.

7. Change your sink. If your sink is old and stained, replace it with a new one. Stainless steel kitchen sinks will give your kitchen a clean and new look even if you do not change tiles and counter tops. Replacing your faucet will also make a big difference.

8. Add Texture. Adding texture to your countertops is also a cost-effective way to remodel your kitchen. It will give your space a new look even if you don’t redo the entire area. Try mixing different materials like granite, marble and wood to create texture.

9. Light up the room. Lighting fixtures with unique designs and shapes will certainly add elegance to any kitchen. Pendant lights and sconces will not only lighten up the kitchen but add a beautiful glow as well.

10. Clean and Polish. Give your kitchen a complete make over by cleaning up. Make your cabinets, drawers, stoves, countertops, ceiling and floors squeaky clean and your kitchen will surely be brighter and more inviting.
