big event

2011 Oscar Awards Best and Worst Dressed

The 83rd Academy Awards was held on Sunday, February 27 at the Kodak Theatre in Holywood, California.  Anne Hathaway and James Franco hosted the big event this year, which seemed to be an unlikely choice.  Anyway, here are my personal picks of Best and Worst Dressed people from the Oscars.
BEST DRESSED:
Anne Hathaway glows in a red Valentino gown.
Jennifer Hudson looking gorgeous in Versace.
Michelle Williams is simply elegant in her Channel gown and pixie ‘do.  She is nominated as Best Actress for her role as Cindy in the love-story “Blue Valentine”.
Mila Kunis, lovely in lavender Elie Saab gown.
Scarlett Johansson in a sexy magenta Dolce & Gabbana lace gown.
Natalie Portman looks radiant and lovely in her plum Rodarte gown.  She won the Best Actress Award for her role as Nina in the psychological thriller “Black Swan”.  Loving the tassel earrings too, by Tiffany & Co.
Reese Witherspoon is known for her ‘classic-hollywood’ style in the Red Carpet.  Love the simple elegance  of this and the ‘do!
Sandra Bullock looks regal in a scarlet Vera Wang gown.
Amy Adams, nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Fighter” wore a dazzling royal blue gown by L’Wren Scott and $1.35 Million worth of emerald accessories by Cartier.
Celine Dion looking fabulous in Armani.
The ever pretty Gwyneth Paltrow in a shimmering Calvin Klein gown.
Matthew McConaughey’s leading lady, Camila Alves was breathtaking in this plunging black Kaufman Franco gown.
WORST DRESSED:
I chose these people to be the Worst Dressed because they are either wearing gowns that are  overly embellished or with unflattering additions that didn’t do anything good for their look.
Staying true to her reputation as the “weird one” in the Red Carpet, Helena Bonham Carter showed up in what seems like one her tamest looks. She is nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The King’s Speech”.  The film won the Best Picture award.

Busy Philips’ gown looks too busy, indeed.
Virginia Madsen looks messy in this feathery number by Romona Keveza.

Marissa Tomei’s vintage dress failed to impress.

Nicole Kidman had a great ‘do and accessory but this Christian Dior dress just isn’t flattering.  She is nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her role as Becca Corbet in “Rabbit Hole”.

Cate Blanchett is known to be fashion a risk-taker but her pale lavender Givenchy gown looks more like a wall-mirror than a dress.

Melissa Leo won the Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in “The Fighter” but her doily-inspired  Marc Bouwer gown wasn’t a winner.

Emma Watson Wins Elle Style Icon Award

Emma Watson Wins Elle Style Icon Award

Fashion Designer Vivienne Westwood presented the 2011 Elle Style Icon Award last night to actress/model Emma Watson (she is the new face of Lancôme).  Apparently, the designer was not aware of who Emma Watson was until that moment.  But the awkward introduction didn’t matter as Watson took it lightheartedly and confidently walked up the stage to accept her award. (watch the video here)
Vivienne Westwood with the ‘Style Icon’ Emma Watson
I thought she looked really lovely and sophisticated in pixie hair and Hakaan cut-out mini-dress.  I like that she didn’t try to dress up too sexy for her age when she was in her teens.  Now that she’s 20, she really has a style of her own.  And here are some of Emma’s looks over the years.

at the Orange British Academy Film Awards in London

Nicole Kidman at 53rd Grammy Awards

53rd Grammy’s Best and Worst Dressed

Here are my personal picks for the best and worst dressed at the 53rd Grammy Awards.
BEST DRESSED
Jennifer Hudson looked so sexy in this Versace dress and strappy Loubotins.
Heidi Klum’s glittery golden gown is by Julien Macdonald.
Named as “Best New Artist” of the Year, Esperanza Spalding looked pretty in this olive green dress. I like  the hairstyle although the pink pumps seem out of place.
Giuliana Rancic looked pretty in this fringed mini-dress.
Selena Gomez wore a simple but elegant piece by J. Mendel.
Nicole Kidman wore a mermaid gown accented with frills by Jean Paul Gaultier.
I really like Kelly Osbourne’s Tadashi Shoji ruffled lavender dress paired with metallic peep-toes.  Very fitting for the Grammy’s.
Lady Antebellum’s lead singer, Hilary Scott donned this gorgeous black number by Roberto Cavalli. Love the hair too!  Her group won five awards at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards, including Record and Song of the Year for the ballad “Need You Now”.
My favorite look is Julianne Hough who strutted this beautiful Catherine Malandrino gown.
WORST DRESSED
I don’t think Cyndi Lauper’s trashy jacket dress rocks!
Ciara’s outfit is so unflattering!
Grammy Funk’s attire looks like it’s screaming!  The cup size is too small and the scalloped front is too short.
Glee’s Jenna Ushkowitz would have looked better if her black mini dress wasn’t a see-through mesh.
Katy Perry’s winged gown was actually Armani but I still think it looks awful.
The texture and print of Natasha Bedingfield’s gown feels and looks uncomfortable.
The print on Amber Reilly’s dress by Ema Savahl looks scary.
Yocon Talie has feathers coming out in all directions as she arrived at the Staples Center for the big event.
Monica’s raised-shoulder structured gown looks too stiff and sad for this event.
Finally, Lady Gaga arrives inside an egg, lifted up by these group of scantily-clad people. Later on the show, Gaga would hatch as an alien woman with shoulder horns as she performed (watch the performance here) her latest latest single and upcoming album, both titled “Born This Way.”
